Black Sabbath’s self-titled debut album, released on Friday the 13th of February 1970, is widely regarded as the record that gave birth to modern heavy metal. Recorded in a raw, almost live setting, it showcases the classic lineup of Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward blending dark, blues-based riffs with ominous lyrics about the occult, doom, and the supernatural. From the haunting opening storm sounds of the title track “Black Sabbath” to the heavy grooves of songs like “N.I.B.” and “The Wizard,” the album introduced a heavier, darker sound that set it apart from other rock bands of the era.

On release, the album reached number 8 on the UK Albums Chart and later climbed to number 23 on the U.S. Billboard Top LPs, where it remained for over a year and eventually sold over a million copies. Today it is celebrated as a seminal classic, frequently cited as the first true metal album and a key influence on everything from traditional heavy metal to doom and stoner rock. Its iconic cover art, featuring a mysterious figure in front of an old watermill, and its relentless, atmospheric sound make it an essential addition for any serious rock or metal collection.

This is one of the best records places in the Charlotte-Matthew area. They have an amazing selection of sealed & preowned vinyls, cassettes, CDs, and more.

Sometimes I find record stores through research on the cities I visit. Other times fellow collectors might provide advice on where to go. Noble is neither ... I found them through their Instagram presence
