Double Dee & Steinski – Lesson 1, 2 & 3

Double Dee & Steinski – Lesson 1, 2 & 3 (1985 US Promo Pressing) – VG+

Double Dee & Steinski are pioneering New York hip-hop producers, celebrated for their groundbreaking cut-and-paste, sample-collage approach that helped define early turntablist culture. Lesson 1, 2 & 3 is a cornerstone of mid-’80s hip-hop history, blending James Brown breaks, spoken-word fragments, and radio-era sampling into a masterclass of DJ science. This release captures the raw, conceptual energy that influenced generations of DJs and producers who followed.

Vinyl (VG+): Graded conservatively. The record retains strong gloss with only light hairlines and faint sleeve marks visible under direct light, none of which overpower playback. Sound remains clean and dynamic after ultrasonic cleaning.
Sleeve: Generic promo jacket, housed in a protective outer sleeve with an archival inner. Labels are clean and legible, including the promo designation.

This is the original 1985 US promotional pressing on Tommy Boy, marked “For Promotional Use Only – Not For Sale.” It is identifiable by the Frankford/Wayne Mastering Labs stamp and the mastering engineer inscription in the runout grooves—key details sought by collectors. Later variants may lack the Frankford/Wayne stamp or feature different runout inscriptions, making this promo cut a desirable early example.
