The Album

Originally released in 1971 on the legendary Infinity label (a subsidiary of Festival Records), Kahvas Jute’s Wide Open is widely regarded as a lost gem of the golden era of Australian rock.

Combining a “cool West Coast vibe” with the muscle of early 70s hard rock, the album is a masterclass in twin-guitar interplay. It stands today as one of the most sought-after artifacts of the Aussie heavy psych scene, bridging the gap between heavy blues and the emerging progressive movement.

The Band

Formed in Sydney, Kahvas Jute was a short-lived but powerhouse supergroup connected to local legends Mecca and Tamam Shud. The lineup featured:

• Bob Daisley (Bass): The future international rock icon who would go on to write and record with Ozzy Osbourne (Blizzard of Ozz), Rainbow, Gary Moore, and Uriah Heep.

• Tim Gaze & Dennis Wilson (Guitars): Two of Australia’s finest players, delivering the album’s signature dual-lead sound.

• Dannie Davidson (Drums): The engine behind the band’s complex rhythmic shifts.

Reissue Features

• Noble Records Exclusive: Pressed on Blue/Black Splatter vinyl.

• Gatefold Jacket: Reproduces the original 1971 artwork.

“One of the best melodic hard-rock albums of all time.” — Stan Denski
